The mind and the moon

 Astrologically, the sun has been attributed as the influencer of Atman (Soul) and the moon has been attributed to as the influencer of the mind. And the mercury has been attributed to as the influencer of intellect. And naturally, the sun and the moon are also seen as father and mother respectively.

 Naturally, the mind is something that is seen as which changes very quickly, hardly it is same in the morning and the evening when one is a product of one's own desires. Interestingly the astrological transit of planets to cross each of the 12 houses is as follows in increasing order.

  Moon -> 2.5 days

  Mercury -> 1 month (approx)

  Venus -> 1 month (approx)

  Sun -> 1 month (all Thamizh are based on the relative movement of Earth to the sun, eg. In the Thamizh month of 'Thai' sun is in Capricorn)

 Mars -> 45 days (approx)

 Jupiter -> 1 year (approx)

 Rahu -> 1.5 years (approx) (moves to houses retrospectively)

 Ketu -> 1.5 years (approx) (moves to houses retrospectively)

 Saturn -> 2.5 years (approx)

 From this list we can infer that the moon is the moving planet (though technically not a planet, but a natural satellite of Earth) and Saturn is the slowest moving, this order can be attributed between the distance of the planets and the sun in the solar system, technically all revolve around, the Earth is taken as a base to the sun astrologically.

 Ideally, this represents the nature of our mind why it changes so fastly just like the moon. And Interestingly, the Atman or the soul is represented as eternal and never changing, but always with life. Similarly, all planets revolve around the sun and the sun is what energises the planets and living beings on it, without which the plants can't grow.

 Coming back to the mind and the moon, the moon also naturally influences compassion, mother and management. The slowest moving planet Saturn influences the career and lifespan naturally. If one may see closely, career is not something that one changes frequently (Saturn is the slowest moving planet relative to Earth), but the factors induced by the movement of the mind, the mood swings happen frequently to a common man (fastest moving planet).

 Though we didn't want to go into further astrological insights of the moon, we thought it might be of interest to the reader. Also to mention, the author is not a professional in astrology, but absorbed by its beauty.

 On Full Moon day (also 2 days before and after) the moon has complete brightness since they are at 180° to each other specifically at the time of the full moon. Astrologically if one may see it, the sun and the moon will be 7 places from each other naturally, aspecting each other.

 The single and 7th aspect of a full moon is said to be as beneficial as Jupiter's 7th aspect. Whenever the moon (more beneficial if it is a 'Valarpirai' moon and near to full moon) is aspected by natural benefice or moon is in conjunction with the natural benefic Jupiter, Venus and Mercury, without the influence of natural malefic Saturn, Rahu and Mars (though a close friend of Moon), such native is highly likely to have a tender mind and a positive approach to things. And if it is the other way around, one might have a rigidity within oneself, if it is influenced by benefices at the same time, that rigidity might be used for a good cause, based on the extent of influence which is stronger.

My memories with MS Dhoni

My memories with MS Dhoni : In December 2004, during a half yearly holidays in my high school he came in as a fashionable young wicket keeper, had seen many specialist keepers come and go in that period such as Parthiv Patel, DK, Ajay Ratra, Deep Dasgupta, so was not having any awe in him and getting a run out in hurried manner wasn't an impressive first showing. Was ignorant of the facts behind then, that he came from 3 centuries with India A in Kenya. Slowly as the days progressed, one rainy noon on the summer of April 2005, came back from an Annual exam to see India scoring more than 300 runs in the ODI against Pakistan in Vizag, from the scorecard saw that there was a change in batting order with MS Dhoni at 3 scoring 148 runs at a quick pace, but even then didn't have an awe in him. Days progressed through 2005, near a Deepavali day I was having a holiday, there was an ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka, the series was already decided with India had won it comfortably al

Transformation of data and analytics with information technology

The world we are in is driven by data. In other words, Data has been the backbone behind this transformation with technology. In the early days, trade was driven purely by commodity exchange for which the data was captured in numerics. Later, after the invention of coins and subsequently printed money the idea of market expanded with the printed money being able to be a common currency. For this study, let us take the emergence of the United States' economy. From the advent of market economy starting 19th century, consequently there was a need for a banking system and public investment through stock markets and US had higher flow of goods and services, enabling a larger consumer base which meant the data was saved in paper and pen. This resulted in a need to store this data better, which the technology enablers started doing throughout the 20th century. So for this it needed to be stored in servers for there was a visual input and output needed. This enabled the pursu

India's Economy - Thinking through the Journey and the Road Ahead

What comes into our mind when we first hear the word 'India'? Diversity? More than 1000 year old monuments? A land of wisdom? Crowded places? The skyscrapers, fast highways may come as the last pictures in one's memory. India has always been a great place for pilgrimages wherein people come in the quest to understand the true meaning of the life that has been given to them. People of India come from the ethnicity of saving and trying to live a life with contentment. But this contentment has been slowly fading in the age of consumerism. Let us see the journey of India economy and its chances of blooming in the future. The Journey: Years 1947 to 1990 :  After Independence, India had adapted the socialist and protectionist principles mainly assuming that adapting capitalism would be letting something similar to East Indian Company through the back door after attaining independence. So the state was keen to keep all the powers and licenses of businesses under its co
