Contentment

Contentment is one attribute that most of us want in us. But this wanting is again a search for something. Let us try to investigate within the limited purview of this author about contentment.

A child goes to a school for kindergarten, then slowly the comparison with the best student starts. Then this goes to college, work and so on. What actually defines that you are the best student or the best employee or whatever best it is? This commercialisation of the best has made things superficial, don't understand why it can't be one of the best. Not everyone can be good at the same thing, everyone is unique. And each unique talent needs to be appreciated.

We somehow are taught to be afraid to be our own, we always seek to be better than our neighbour, better than the next kid in the school and so on. We are constantly seeking achievement, success, pride. As we grow on, these characteristics just grow with us linearly making it unbearable for ourselves at times. Somehow we want a wall to lean, so we use this comparison with others as a tool may be.

The author feels that this constant seeking to be better than someone or to be noticed by our immediate circle is at its peak in the middle ages (25 to 50). Due to this, we are seeking things that we don't even need, but as others are possessing, so we want to be possessed by the same thing or a higher thing than that. And this leads to vanity within us, which most of us can't deny. And maybe during old age, this gradually reduces and this curve is at Zero only at the death bed. It is just a generalisation, but specifically, it could vary.

So, contentment can start only when we stop seeking external recognition and even internal recognition/gratification. Quoting from Jiddu Krishnamurti's teachings, we are afraid to face truly 'What Is', so we are chasing 'What should be'. So if we can understand, 'What is' wholly then we can come to the real point of contentment. The author feels that contentment is necessary to build things that are long-lasting in this world. Most importantly in our daily lives, how much ever money we might so-called possessing it, but without contentment, we perceive ourselves as poor.

Contentment in work, contentment in family, contentment in financial status and most importantly contentment in oneself helps to bring about a clear understanding about life and to live the way it is, to carry out your duties without the sense of vanity.

My memories with MS Dhoni

My memories with MS Dhoni : In December 2004, during a half yearly holidays in my high school he came in as a fashionable young wicket keeper, had seen many specialist keepers come and go in that period such as Parthiv Patel, DK, Ajay Ratra, Deep Dasgupta, so was not having any awe in him and getting a run out in hurried manner wasn't an impressive first showing. Was ignorant of the facts behind then, that he came from 3 centuries with India A in Kenya. Slowly as the days progressed, one rainy noon on the summer of April 2005, came back from an Annual exam to see India scoring more than 300 runs in the ODI against Pakistan in Vizag, from the scorecard saw that there was a change in batting order with MS Dhoni at 3 scoring 148 runs at a quick pace, but even then didn't have an awe in him. Days progressed through 2005, near a Deepavali day I was having a holiday, there was an ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka, the series was already decided with India had won it comfortably al

Transformation of data and analytics with information technology

The world we are in is driven by data. In other words, Data has been the backbone behind this transformation with technology. In the early days, trade was driven purely by commodity exchange for which the data was captured in numerics. Later, after the invention of coins and subsequently printed money the idea of market expanded with the printed money being able to be a common currency. For this study, let us take the emergence of the United States' economy. From the advent of market economy starting 19th century, consequently there was a need for a banking system and public investment through stock markets and US had higher flow of goods and services, enabling a larger consumer base which meant the data was saved in paper and pen. This resulted in a need to store this data better, which the technology enablers started doing throughout the 20th century. So for this it needed to be stored in servers for there was a visual input and output needed. This enabled the pursu

India's Economy - Thinking through the Journey and the Road Ahead

What comes into our mind when we first hear the word 'India'? Diversity? More than 1000 year old monuments? A land of wisdom? Crowded places? The skyscrapers, fast highways may come as the last pictures in one's memory. India has always been a great place for pilgrimages wherein people come in the quest to understand the true meaning of the life that has been given to them. People of India come from the ethnicity of saving and trying to live a life with contentment. But this contentment has been slowly fading in the age of consumerism. Let us see the journey of India economy and its chances of blooming in the future. The Journey: Years 1947 to 1990 :  After Independence, India had adapted the socialist and protectionist principles mainly assuming that adapting capitalism would be letting something similar to East Indian Company through the back door after attaining independence. So the state was keen to keep all the powers and licenses of businesses under its co
